BACKGROUND

Twenty architectural works created in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands spanning a broad time frame are precursors to and share many of the features common to the nine works presented as representative of the generation of "architectural rowers."

This standing thread, ever present in Mediterranean cultures, is not a break with the past—to the contrary, it is connected with a tradition of Catalan and Balearic architects sharing values of respect for and proximity to what exists, the place and its occupants, the technical and research capacity of the profession together with the visual power inherent to the most moving architecture.
